It's fall planting time!

The Oregon Department of Forestry can help you find the native forest nursery seedlings you need for planting. Publications, regional information on nurseries with seedling stock in your area, and reforestation rules and requirements - along with information on landowner assistance and who to contact - all of this and more can be found on the department's Forest Nursery Seedlings web page.

Furloughs - Oregon Department of Forestry office closure dates
Oregon Department of Forestry offices throughout the state will BE CLOSED on Friday, November 27, 2009. Offices will re-open on Monday, November 30.

Coping with reduced state revenues requires closing most state offices and facilities on certain days from September 2009 through June 2011, with employees taking unpaid furloughs on those days.

As an emergency response agency, the Oregon Department of Forestry will NOT observe required state office closure dates that conflict with fire season - June through October - although ODF employees will be required to take the same total number of unpaid furlough days as all other state employees.

CLOSURE DATES FOR ALL ODF OFFICES WILL BE: Friday, November 27, 2009; Friday, March 19, 2010; Friday, April 16, 2010; Friday, November 26, 2010; Friday, March 18, 2011, and Friday, May 20, 2011.
Stay informed throughout the flu season
Get more information about the flu at http://www.flu.oregon.gov
Protect yourself, your family, and your co-workers by getting vaccinated and staying informed. The fewer of us who get sick from either seasonal influenza or pandemic H1N1 influenza, the more we can reduce the impact in our schools and workplaces. Visit the state's flu Web Site at http://www.flu.oregon.gov/ or call the state hotline at 1-800-978-3040.
Fall color in Oregon
A Nysa leaf in full fall color
As days shorten and nights grow cooler, Oregon's rural and urban forests are undergoing an amazing transformation. Take the time to venture out to hear leaves crunch underfoot and bask in the beauty of Oregon's fall colors.

And while the spring is always a good time to plant trees, the fall season is also conducive to tree planting - giving trees time to settle into their surroundings before the surge of spring growth. Think about giving your yard some structure and character, and plant a tree now during these ideal fall conditions.
