| Federal Forestlands Advisory Committee meets Mar. 10 | ||

WHAT: Giving Oregonians a greater voice in charting the future of federal forestlands and how those lands can better contribute to Oregon’s environmental, economic, and social well-being. Agenda topics for this meeting include presentations and discussion of older growth forests on federal forestlands. An opportunity for public comment will be provided at 12:30 p.m., with specific comments requested on the following topics:
WHO: The Oregon Board of Forestry’s Federal Forestlands Advisory Committee WHEN: 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday, March 10, 2008 WHERE: Oregon Department of Forestry Headquarters – Building C, 2600 State St., Salem. WHY: Federal forests cover more than 16 million acres in Oregon – about 58 percent of the state’s forest land base. The wide range of values that these forests provide – recreation, wilderness, access, wildlife, water, and timber – are critical to Oregon’s economy, social fabric, and environmental health. Accordingly, the Governor and the Oregon legislature have called on the Board of Forestry to help develop a vision for the role of federal forestlands in Oregon.
